There are lots of collectors out there but some turn into hoarders. It’s one thing to collect items you’re passionate about but if you’ve seen the show (“Hoarders” on your www.satellitetv-hq.com channels) you know how real this problem can be. Here’s some tips on avoiding this extreme:
Only pick the good stuff: Don’t spend weekend after weekend collecting items – it’s fine to make a hobby out of collecting but you’ve got to know when to stop. Just remember you don’t have to buy something at every garage sale or every store.
Display your collection: If you’re a collector you’re doing it because you like your things – display them proudly! If you find you don’t have enough space to show off all your possessions you should pare down a bit to risk overcluttering.
Be specific about your collection: The wider your collection range becomes the more items you’re going to get – that means you will just get more and more stuff. Save your buys for when you find the perfect fit for your narrowly defined collection and avoid getting too many of any one thing.

Collections tell a lot about a person. Whether it be the traditional coin collection, stamps, vintage records, etc. I personally collect vintage records and it shows to my side of loving music and history. Someone who collects stamps may be into older history or perhaps different cultures from around the world. Some people may also be in the collection game to turn a profit, and that can be a very lucrative enterprise. I personally know a woman who collected Barbie dolls, from the very first one to the most current one of five years ago. She made thousands of dollars from the collection. I have another friend who collects Eagles football memorabilia. Old ticket stubs, autographed photo’s, used footballs and jerseys, anything and everything he can get his hands on. He was offered over five thousand dollars for the whole collection but refused as he is a die hard fan and told me no amount of money would be worth it. Many collections also go from family member to family member and hold significance there. My record collection was started by my father in 1968 and has been passed to me and I hope someday to pass it down to my child.

Bilbo had the right idea when he titled his book there and back again. I think it shows the length some of us would go to get what we want, even if it means going to the end of the earth. For me I think that is the strongest indicator of how valuable my collection item is to me. People always say it is the journey that is important and not always the destination. The lengths gone to, time spent, and final price paid all add up to what an object is worth. So I think the important question is what would you not do?

Many times people would say “I’ll give my…to get my hands on…” I think that just about draws the line on how far anyone would go. Because eventually you will come across the item where you would not give your…to get it. That said at the end of the day we are still collectors and much like hunters and archaeologists once we are on the scent of something it becomes an obsession. Therefore, the final measure that sets the trinkets apart from the treasure is how long we would spend trying to get it, because dedicating a lifetime is going pretty far in some books.

Collectors know that they can increase their net worth by adding certain items to their collection. Certain rare comic books are worth quite a bit of money, although they are hard to find. Other items, such as a single tobacco baseball card can feth a price of over 500,000 if it is put up for auction. An individual can use these items to increase his net worth. Few people realize it, but a collection can serve as an individual’s safety net. The idea of a safety net is simple. It gives something people to fall back on should they hit hard times.

There are problems with using a collection as a safetynet. There are times when it is hard ot liquidate an item. There are no guarantees that a seller will get the money he wants for the item when he puts it up for sale. He may get more money than he expects, but it is just as likely that he will lose money. Collecting items, as with any other type of investment involves risk. The market can move against an investor. However, a wise collector diversifies the items in his collection to prevent this risk. Just make sure you hedge your bets.

People collect antiques, collector items and various things hoping that some day these items will be worth some money. Although they may, there is a great chance that something more new and appealing will come out and the item isn’t going to be worth a lot. Although books and catalogs will tell you what the accumulated value for your collection should be, your collection of any type of items is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. That is the value and the amount of money that you are going to get when you sell it.

To check what your collection may be worth you can look on classified sites like eBay or craigslist and see what others with similar collections are selling their items for. You will have to sell for a price that is competitive to yours if you want to get a sale. You can also try listing the collectors pieces in a local newspaper or at a garage sale. Collecting things is a hobby that isn’t as popular as it once was, and if your looking to cash in on your collection you may not be so lucky. Find the amount its worth and determine if your collection is worth selling.

If you were to figure out how much you were willing to pay on everything that you might consider buying ahead of time, then you would be in good shape to craft an effective budget. You would find that you were able to plan out exactly how much money you were going to need in order to take care of a variety of different projects. Since that is the case, you should always consider how much you are willing to pay for something before you buy it.

How much are you willing to pay for the home of your dreams? For different people the answer is going to be different. It really depends on a variety of different factors. Maybe home ownership is not even something that you are interested in, and that would mean that you would not be willing to pay very much at all. Other people might have been saving up for this dream their whole life. We all come from different backgrounds on that, and it is important to recognize that different people are going to have different takes on what they should be doing to save up for different items. Just knowing what you are willing to pay is enough to help you create a good budget for yourself.

Where Can You Find Your Priceless Collection Pieces?

People collect everything from coffee cups to keys, shoes, umbrellas, hats, cats, dogs, and butterflies, but that is not the end of the list. Most people at some point in their live collected something. Some collect more interesting things than others, some prefer to collect unusual things.

Depending on what you’re collecting you can find almost anything on the internet if you know where to look. Websites such as Craigslist, EBay, online yard sales, and people’s personal websites where they like to show off their collections.

One of the most unusual collections that I personally have discovered is a huge collection of more than six hundred Toasters. Believe it or not there are some very pricey pieces in that collection. One toaster in particular from the 1920′s has a price tag of 3,500 which comes to about 419.99 US dollars. Can you imagine that?

The collectors first toaster was purchased at a yard sale in San Francisco. It was a 1950′s pop-up style chrome toaster, and it was for his personal use. Now the collection is displayed on an online toaster museum.

These days the collector has a more difficult time finding toasters that are unusual to him, but still the best place to find old, unusual toasters is yard sales and flea markets. What’s 1 more click? Your boss isn’t watching… Great Yard Sale Finds
